Why I Care About Climate Change

Last week I spent several days in Minneapolis with 1,200 climate activists. Beyond the science and the practical reasons for being there, not to mention a sense of urgency that we need to act and look after the planet, there was one thing most of the climate reality leaders I spoke to had in common.

Children.

My twins are three today. It’s been a bumpy ride, with a chunk of time spent in hospital, but my little monsters are happy and healthy today and looking forward to whatever the future holds.

It’s it’s that thought of the future, what the world will look like for them when they graduate, get married and do whatever things they are going to do in 2050 and beyond, this is what drives me.

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in“.

I like that.

So here’s to Petra and Mathilda’s future.

Here’s to your future.

And LOTS of trees.
